'The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am,
then I can change'
-Carl Rogers

Counselling is an opportunity to talk through whatever is difficult or troubling you,
with someone who can support and guide you along the way.

Matthew Bordonada (formerly Stinson) is a trained Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist, and holds both a Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of East London.

I am originally from the US, and I have been practising as a counsellor/psychotherapist since 2005.  In my therapeutic work I draw on humanistic and psychodynamic theory to help clients better understand what may be causing them difficulty or distress, as well as utilising techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help achieve stability and structure in the present, with the overall aim of holistically meeting the needs of a client. I believe that all people have the inbuilt ability to change and grow positively, given the right conditions for growth.

I have experience working with both children and and adults at a variety of services including the NSPCC/Childline, the University of Brighton, and managing therpeutic services at the University for the Creative Arts and the University of Winchester.  I am presently employed as the Lead Therapist at a private therapy clinic in Brighton, as well as working in private practice, where I offer one-to-one therapy and clincial supervision.

I am senior accredited with the
National Counselling Society (MNCS Senior Acc), and accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred), as well as being a registrant on the Accredited Voluntary Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists

Specialities of support include: depression, anxiety, addictions, trauma, childhood abuse, and sexuality.
